What’s up everyone,

In this week’s newsletter, I’m going to take you through a case study for The Game Plan podcast with Rob Lipsett.

We went from 0 to 100,000 podcast views in under one month.

This is a no BS strategy that will significantly increase the reach of your own show.

Here’s how we did it.

In the podcast world, the lights are always on.

24/7. 365 days a year.

I plan to use all of this time wisely.

  1. Episode Design

The goal was to design a high-quality podcast from the beginning.

Well edited episodes, multi-camera and clean branding.

I wanted to build repeatability into people's minds when they saw the logo and thumbnails.

In terms of the episodes, each episode lead with a high impact moment which builds suspense and generates curiosity.

This becomes a valuable asset for the content workflow throughout the week.

2. Content Workflow

After we released an episode on Sunday, the high-impact moments are scheduled as clips throughout the week.

These clips drive subscribers and increase exposure.

People won’t listen immediately to the full episode, but you stay on top of mind for when that time comes.

Starting from Monday, clips are released and analysed closely.

I’m looking for a couple of indicators:

- Are clips driving subscribers?

- Is the retention rate above 80%?

- Is the average view duration above 15 seconds?

If it’s a resounding yes to all, we’re moving in the right direction.

Everything drives back to the overall episode and prevents any major swings in views.

3. Clips Channel

Not to make things more complicated, but to supplement the growth, we started a clips channel for short form content called The Game Plan Clips.

At first, it doesn’t look like much, but over 12 to 18 months, this is an insanely powerful tool.

Funnily enough, within one month, we drove an additional 100K view and 2K subscribers from completely zero.

If the lights are always on with one channel, having two channels operating on overdrive means your content is ALWAYS meeting fresh eyes.

4. Preview Clips

It’s one thing hitting with one episode, but you have to do it again and again to build a podcast.

We created preview clips on the Thursday before a release. This is to generate more interest and drive more subscribers.

To be honest, they weren’t a key driver in traffic compared to everything else. Preview clips still have a place, but the shelf life is pretty limited and production time can take quite a long time.

5. Consistency

Even with this structured workflow, it goes down to following through on the plan every day and every week.

Doing it for a week, then stopping, does more harm than good.

So from the beginning, this was the plan and strategy. Then it’s time to execute.

The results?

- 100,000+ podcast views

- 100,000+ clip views

- 2,000+ subscribers
