Do More with Less From Your Podcast

What’s up everyone,

As the sun rises across Asia once again on this beautiful Sunday, I’m going to be breaking down how you can get more out of your podcast.

Believe it or not, I’m not a big fan of blindly doing more.

- More work

- More episodes

- More stuff to do

The process can be exhausting IF your approach is ineffective.

Instead, I like to look at EVERYTHING I have and think, how can I get more out of these resources?

This stops you chasing the next hit with your podcast.

Instead, you can keep momentum high and results higher.

So my approach is simple: get more out of your current episodes so you don’t feel you're falling behind.

Everything stems from the long form episode. It’s important you throw EVERYTHING at creating a niche specific and on brand episode. From here, this is when we get creative.

1. High Quality Video

If your podcast looks like Minecraft, we’re screwed.

It’s crucial you record in the highest quality camera and, if possible, record in person. This gives you leverage to repurpose and grow. The lower the quality, sadly the lower the retention.

The episode will continue to generate views and engagement for months if the quality is high. The audio is smoother, and the video is crisp. Everyone wins.

2. Professional Photo Post

Take a series of professional photos to repurpose. You can drive engagement across YouTube Community, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram with a high-quality photo over basic text.

It’s a pattern disrupt which can build demand in the run up to an episode.

This adds personality and character into a world of dry and boring content.

3. Thumbnail Post

For YouTube, your thumbnail is almost as important as the video.

Sounds harsh, but it’s true.

To recap, a high-quality thumbnail has:

- Headshot

- Hook title

- Headline text

- Podcast branding

Once you’ve completed a design, guess what you’re going to do with it?

Bang this to LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram stories.

This is the perfect way to release an episode, high impact and relevant.

4. YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels Clips

From this core episode, you can create at least 3 to 5 high quality clips from each episode.

I like to game the algorithm a small bit here. Focusing on shorter clips under 15 seconds and longer authority style clips up to 35 seconds.

When we hit one clip on YouTube, we bring it right back to Instagram concurrently.

5. Twitter & LinkedIn Clips

I approach Twitter and LinkedIn slightly differently than YouTube and Instagram.

First, you can change the dimensions of the video from vertical to square. It fits better on the feed.

Second, I only focus on authority style content to support a text post, not replace.

This allows you to go deep on the topic and have a supporting video with the content.

6. Newsletter

Once an episode is released, push a newsletter post with 24 hours.

Why?

The first 24 hours are crucial on YouTube. Let’s drive as much traffic as possible.

Keep it simple. Share the episode, simple copy, with a clear CTA.

Basically, tell the world you and your podcast exists.

7. Transcript

To give myself the best possible chance, I run a transcript in the backend which appears on audio and YouTube.

This improves the discoverability of your podcast and episodes on Google with some basic SEO.

You don’t need to be a genius, you just have to do it.

I use Buzzsprout to generate transcripts in literally 3 minutes.

8. Podcast Website

Finally, for SEO, I’ve had a website from the beginning of my podcast.

I copy my exact titles, descriptions and links into a basic webpage which drives traffic from Google.

Nothing is new, everything is repurposed from the core episode.

And that’s it. That is everything you need to extend your episodes long into the future.

See you next week people.
